The Fire Marshal's Office is the Enforcement Agency responsible for the Connecticut Fire Safety Code.
The Fire Marshal's Office:
Investigates the cause and origin of fires and explosions.
Inspects buildings and facilities used by the public and buildings used for manufacturing.
Regulates and enforces storage and use of hazardous materials.
Distributes and coordinates information pertaining to firefighters "Right-to-know" laws.
Regulates the transportation and storage of flammable liquids,compressed gases and hazardous chemicals.
Regulates and enforces the use of and storage of explosives.
Conducts plan review of new buildings and development for compliance with appropriate codes.
Prepares and formalizes proposals and amendments to local ordinances relating to public safety. Conducts public education and fire prevention activities.
Provides staff service to the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Serves as the Open Burning Official.
Maintains certification through mandated continuing education relating to the profession.
