REVENUE COLLECTION AND TAXES

What is the present mill rate?

The mill rate for the 2006 Grand List is 35.8.

When are taxes due and what time frame does it cover?

Real Estate taxes over $100.00 are due in two installments.  The first half is due July 1st and the second half is due January 1st.  These taxes cover from July 1st through June 30th.

Personal Property taxes over $100.00 are due in two installments.  The first half is due July 1st and the second half is due January 1st.  These taxes cover being in business October 1st of the previous year.

Regular Motor Vehicle taxes are due in one installment on July 1st.  These taxes cover October 1st of the previous year through September 30th of the current year.

Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due in one installment January 1st.  These taxes cover from when the vehicle was registered through September 30th of the previous year.

When are Sewer Use Bills due and what time frame does it cover?

They are due November 1st and cover July 1 of the prior year to June 30th of the current year.  For additional information on your sewer use billing, please visit the Sanitation Department site, Water Pollution Control Division.

How is interest calculated?

Interest accrues at 1 ½ % per month back to the original due date and is applied the 1st day of each month in accordance with Connecticut General Statue 12-146.  Interest is applied to the outstanding principal amount only.  

Late is late.  The State of Connecticut does not allow anyone to waive interest no matter what the reason is for late payment.

Can I pay all my taxes on one check?

Yes. You may pay all of your taxes on one check, however, be sure to reference all the list numbers on the memo line of your check

What if I received a bill that I escrow taxes for?

Immediately forward the bill to your lender.  Then contact your lender and have them request that we send all future bills directly to them.

What if I received a tax bill for real estate that I no longer own?
Please notify the revenue collections department immediately at (860) 652-7614.
How are my taxes calculated?

Your taxes are calculated as follows: your assessment x mill rate = taxes.  For additional information on the calculation of your bill please visit the Assessor’s office web page.

Are there tax reduction programs for elderly residents?

Yes, but income, age and other eligibility requirements must be met.  Please contact the Assessor’s Office for more information.

What should I do if I think my tax bill is incorrect?

You need to contact the Assessor’s Department for clarification and adjustments to your bill.

What if I can’t pay my taxes for any reason?

Please contact the Collector.  He will be glad to help resolve the problem by arranging a payment plan.  

Do you Accept credit cards?  

Yes,  see Payment Options.   

Payment Options -  You may pay by credit card using phone access or the internet.  A nominal fee will be charged by the vendor, Offical Payments Corp. Credit card payments may be made by calling 1-800-2-PAY-TAX  (1-800-272-9829) using jurisdiction code#1754 or by the web www.officialpayments.com .
